It’s nice to go back to basics. Beige and black with some gold accents is classy and timeless. These are two other items that I’ve had for a while but have not worn together. I like the look of the button down with the cardigan. A classic silhouette with a classic color combination. Don’t be afraid to embrace time tested trends.

Details: Shirt, cardigan and jeans from The Limited / Necklace from Nordstrom Rack / BCBG Marlay heels from DSW

Outfit: Sweet Rocker

I’ve always wanted leather pants but will never likely invest in a real pair. Since it is such a hot trend this season, I snatched up this pair of pleather ones from Target. They fit great and really do look like leather. It’s fun to embrace this trend without committing a large amount of budget to it. Matched up with a printed shirt and colorful cardigan, this outfit is edgy and sweet at the same time.

Details:

  • Xhiliration pants from Target ($22.99 – sorry couldn’t find a link)
  • Shirt from Anthropology
  • Cardigan from The Limited
  • Necklace from Talbots
  • BCBC Marlay pumps from DSW

Have you gotten any leather pieces this season?

Outfit: What a BOLD Statement

Once again, I’m taking part in one of Marion’s style challenges – the trendy statement necklace. Since I’ve been doing this blog accessorizing has been one of my personal goals. I still feel I have a long way to go but for this challenge I decided to use not one, but two necklaces to create a bold look. They are also the only pop of color in this otherwise neutral combination [close up shot below] which truly makes them a statement piece.

See how other bloggers take on the challenge and don’t forget The Pleated Poppy’s WIWW!

Details:

  • Top and shorts from The Limited
  • Long necklace from Francessca’s
  • Cobalt beaded necklace from H&M (similar here)
  • BCBG Emonee heels from DSW

Outfit: Blue Dress

Oh how I love summer and dress season. I’m cold if it’s less than 75° so even though I’ve been complaining a little about the extra heat lately (sorry, I’m a spoiled So Cal resident) I’m still happy that I can wear dresses! I once paired this with cowboy boots because it has a little of that cowgirl chic vibe to it. Don’t you agree?

I don’t usually share much about my life on HHS because I figure you’re here to see outfits and not to hear about my life. However, sometimes news is too big not to share. So here goes. I’m leaving my beloved place of employment after almost seven years. On to the next adventure. This change addict just got a supercharged dose filled with excitement and uncertainty. So, now’s the time for you to spread some love about this blog so I can skyrocket to blogger fame, get free stuff and not need to go back to work. There it’s out in the universe now!

Details:

  • Dress from Talbots
  • Tank and necklace from The Limited
  • BCBG Emonee heels from DSW

Outfit: Beating the Blues

I went against my better judgement when buying this shirt. It’s a loose fitting, flowy kind of thing that is not in my normal wheelhouse. It’s long and not something that can really be tucked in so its uses are limited. I like it best with tights and boots in the winter but I wanted to give it an opportunity to venture into my summer wardrobe. Overall, I don’t love the outfit and I can’t imagine that I’ll wear it again but I made the effort.

On a separate note, I’m heading to the salon soon and may just end up blonde again. I’m ready for a change.

Details:

  • Top and tank from The Limited
  • Jag pants from Nordstrom (still so many to choose from)
  • Necklace – gift
  • BCBG Emonee heels from DSW

Linking up with Monday Mingle (on a Friday)!

Outfit: You Can Wear the Beach

I find it difficult to wear light colored clothes because I start to look too washed out. But it was a hot day and we were having a BBQ at work so lightweight fabrics and light colors seemed the right call. Plus, the punch of cobalt helped – it’s very sand and surf. You may recall my confessed love of these pants (here) and perhaps you’re getting sick of it but I’m going to wear the heck out of them until it’s too cold to do so. You’ve been forewarned.

Details:

  • Earrings from Spotted Moth
  • Tanks and necklace from The Limited (old)
  • Ring from Stella & Dot
  • Jag pants from Nordstrom (so many colors to choose from!)
  • BCBG Emonee heels from DSW

Can there be too much of a good thing when it comes to fashion?

Outfit: Tasty Tangerine

Yes, I’m still embracing the beautiful tangerine color that is super hot this year. I’m going to be one sad panda when it goes out of style. This light weight cardigan layered over a tank is a comfortable summer style. Thanks to Jen for being my photographer while my husband was away. See her great style below.

Details:

  • Halogen cardigan from Nordstrom
  • Shorts and tank from The Limited
  • Necklace from Francessca’s
  • BCBG Emonee heels from DSW

Any bets on what color Pantone will come up with next year?

Outfit: Tangerine and Stripes

I’ve expressed my love of this year’s Pantone color here and I can’t get over how easy it is to pair things with it! I am especially fond of aqua and orange. I recently got this great striped skirt from Nordstrom and had to wear it the next day. It’s the right combination of comfortable and sassy. Although orange and black evoke thoughts of Halloween (which is my favorite holiday anyway), this color palette works for summer thanks to the aqua accents and neutral sandals.

Next up: I want to find a way to appropriately pair a patterned top with this skirt. I’m upping my game!

The details:

  • Bobeau shirt and skirt from Nordstrom
  • Black obi belt from The Limited
  • Necklace and bracelets from Stella & Dot (you’ll be seeing them frequently)
  • BCBG Emonee heels from DSW

What pattern would you match with this skirt?

Outfit: Go-To Look

Back to one of my favorite combinations: red + black + gray. The addition of the black/white belt from my April shopping (it makes me feel very Bond girl to wear it) as well as the red cuff bracelet add some flair to my go-to look. I always feel great in this color combination so as much as I’m working on adding color and pattern to my wardrobe, I’m just not ready to give this up – yet.

The details:

  • Red jeans from Express
  • Gray Caslon t-shirt and red cuff bracelet from Nordstrom
  • Black blazer from The Limited
  • BCBG Marlay heels from DSW

How much is too much for your favorite color combination?
