It doesn’t take long before my old friend red + black shows up. Although I have learned to do a better job of combining colors, this is still a classic, favorite, go-to, guarantee for me. Do you have a classic combo that you love to repeat?
I wish I could tell you that adding my glasses to this outfit was a style choice but the reality is I waited too long to get my prescription and ran out of contacts. Glasses are a fun accessory though and I like how they transform the look. These shoes are so gorgeous with their suede orange ankle straps. They really add an unexpected touch to any outfit.

I was supposed to go to France for my 40th birthday. Since I left my job last year and the new business venture hasn’t yet gotten me rolling in the dough, it has been put off. Le sigh. Why am I bringing this up now? Not sure. Something about wearing red had me craving Paris so here I sit still lusting over a trip that hasn’t yet happened.

In unrelated “news” I’ve always gotten a ton of compliments on my red eShatki dress (here) so I thought you should know that they have 20% off their new fall line right now.
I bought these Prabal Gurung shoes a couple of weeks ago (here) and their fate has been undecided until now. My practical budget conscious brain could only justify keeping them if I could figure out multiple outfits to wear them with. Over the last couple of weeks, there were several times that I thought, “those shoes would really make this outfit.” I want more patterned shoes in my closet and this trendy neon pair seemed like a good starter pair. After all, this is likely the only way my pale skin will embrace neon colors! When I was 12 it was a whole different story (oh, fingerless lace gloves and giant hair bows).
So, they’re here to stay. I’m excited to have colorful, patterned shoes to play with this summer. I love their classic silhouette and so far, they’ve turned out to be surprisingly comfortable. $20 well spent I’d say!

I thought this outfit would be a nice, casual winter look but I think it turned out frumpy. Especially the second shot with the boots. I wasn’t sure how the cropped pants and boots would look and my final evaluation – terrible. Glad I had the foresight to try something different with the classic black pumps. Do you agree?
Casual looks are a little more of a challenge for me and adding the need for it to be warm doesn’t make it any easier. I’m also very tired of wearing jeans so I really wanted to find a way to make these pants work for winter. Since I’m such a weather wuss (yes, even in So Cal) having bare feet is just not practical. So in the end, I threw on jeans and huffed in frustration.

I was really scared to get leopard print shoes. I wanted them. They looked good on other people but I wasn’t sure I could pull them off. So, I was happy to find a pair I liked at Target. Small initial investment to test the waters. Now, I’ve worn them to death (price you pay for inexpensive shoes). I want to do a green/black/white/leopard combo based on some Pinterest inspirations but this was a good casual take on that look.

I’m bidding farewell to this top. Although seeing it in the picture, it looks better than it did in the mirror. That is a good byproduct of a style blog – seeing your outfits in pictures. You wouldn’t believe how often I think one way about an outfit and then feel completely the opposite after I review the pictures.
Even though it looks pretty good, I’ve decided that it won’t be back next summer. You have to make room for new things, right? I really loved the color and alternating textures for the stripes (one is satin and one is more of a mesh). This may be one of the items that I try to sell on Threadflip – thinking about giving it a try.

Hot days should be filled with clean, crisp colors. It doesn’t actually make you cooler but it almost feels like it. These Jag pants were a great find earlier this year at Nordstrom. You’ve seen them here, here and here and although they are likely a little too casual for most offices, they’re perfect for many other occasions (but lucky me got to wear them to work).

I went against my better judgement when buying this shirt. It’s a loose fitting, flowy kind of thing that is not in my normal wheelhouse. It’s long and not something that can really be tucked in so its uses are limited. I like it best with tights and boots in the winter but I wanted to give it an opportunity to venture into my summer wardrobe. Overall, I don’t love the outfit and I can’t imagine that I’ll wear it again but I made the effort.
On a separate note, I’m heading to the salon soon and may just end up blonde again. I’m ready for a change.
