I turned 40 recently. I took a trip back to MI to celebrate mine and my grandma’s birthdays (she turned 95!). My mom bought me these fabulous heels. The picture does not do them justice. They are sparkly but not due to sequins or glitter – it’s actually in the fabric! So fun! I couldn’t think of a better way to debut these Dorthy-esque shoes than pairing them with my favorite color – red.

Warmer weather reminded me of my white jeans and these fab heels. Both items make me happy whenever I wear them but I’ve never worn them together. I decided to keep the color palette minimal with the white top and beige blazer. I could’ve added red accessories but I didn’t want to overdo it. This is definitely the first time I’ve worn white with white but I really like the way it turned out.

Outfit: eShakti Tux Front Dress

I was excited when eShakti contacted me about trying their product and customization service. They were not unknown to me but I hadn’t gotten around to taking the plunge and buying one of their dresses. I’d seen other bloggers raving about them so I really can’t be certain why I’d yet to buy from them. Right about this same time, I’d realized that although red is my favorite color, I didn’t own very many red clothing items. Enter this beauty! The fit is perfect and I decided to go with the knee length version and scoop neck.

Based on their size chart I selected a 4 and it fits perfectly. And how could I forget to tell you about the pockets! I absolutely love it when dresses/skirts have pockets. They have a variety of cuts that will flatter almost any body type. This dress has a bit of a vintage feel and could be worn for work, play, a daytime wedding or perhaps in the evening with a cute cardigan.

Trust me. I haven’t sold my soul here. It really is a great dress at a reasonable price ($59.95). Plus, now through March 20 you can receive 20% off your order by using HIGHHEELS at checkout. If you are a new customer you get $25 off your first order. Pretty hard to resist, isn’t it?

I really like tan and red together but I feel like a Target employee when I wear them. I actually did wear a red and tan combo to Target once and I got asked for help two times! So, I’m hoping white jeans help to break the Target uniform look because I really don’t want to retire this color combo. How do you style this color combination?

Valentine’s Day is my second favorite holiday. Possibly because my favorite color is red. Possibly because I am a girl and it gets coded into our DNA. Either way, I always find a way to dress for it. I have seen so many stylish ladies combine pink and red but have struggled with putting my own combination together. But alas, I finally got it right! I love the detail on this red pencil skirt and the shoes make me strut. I’m embracing the love.

Yes, I love this red blazer (also seen here). It adds formality thanks to it’s shape but the color just screams f-u-n. I wish I had a pair of cap toed booties to wear to add a little more edginess to the outfit but due to lack of a job, shopping isn’t an option. So, I must make due with what I have. Sigh. I’ve had this shirt for a couple of years and every time I wear it, I get comments on how it matches my tattoo. I do think they go well together but the patterns are pretty different so I find it amusing that people make that connection. I guess it’s proof that adding pattern to my wardrobe is a good thing as long as it matches my tattoo.

Details: Everything except the ring (Spotted Moth) and shoes (Nordstrom’s Rack) are from The Limited (it’s a little embarrassing).

Outfit: Camel Blazer + Leopard Print

This week was a tri-fecta of blazers. This is the other jacket I bought from J Crew Factory during their Black Friday sale. Regularly $168 marked down to $100. This was my first purchase from J Crew Factory and I’m very pleased with the cut and quality of both blazers. This jacket has a country club feel (“…and she stepped on the ball” – let me know if you get that movie reference) which I attribute to the leather-like woven buttons. All it needs are suede elbow patches! Incorporating a bold red shirt and leopard print accessories created a networking appropriate outfit that conveyed sass and responsibility. Or, at least I hope so.

Outfit: Casual Red Blazer

I have to admit, I like blazer season (despite that meaning temperatures are below what I consider acceptable). They really are one of the best layering pieces for me and they add structure to any outfit. I bought this blazer this past summer and am just now able to include it in my regular rotation. I had been looking for a red blazer for quite some time so I snatched it up right away. Sometimes you just have to grab those coveted pieces whenever you’re lucky enough to find them.

Details: Jacket, scarf (you can see the detail of this scarf below) and jeans from The Limited / Rubbish sweater from Nordstrom / Mia boots from 6pm.com

And for some festive nails, how about a purple glitter french manicure? Just the right amount of sparkle in a slightly unexpected way.

Outfit: License to Bling

Even though I don’t consider myself very girlie, sometimes I just have to wear some bling. I love how trendy sequined tops, skirts and dresses are this year. What better way to balance my love of bling and too-girlie avoidance than pairing a sequined top (thanks Tif) with faux leather pants. Bam – bad ass sparkle!

Details:

  • Blazer and glass bead bracelets from The Limited
  • Sequined tank – gift
  • Necklace from Pier One
  • Faux leather pants from Target
  • Coach Caya heels from Macy’s

Outfit: Black & Red Strikes Again

These crazy hot days call for shorts and t-shirts. This outfit is a good example of comfortable and stylish. Stacey and Clinton would be so proud. It may not be office appropriate for everyone but it certainly would be good for a variety of other functions. As we head into fall, I know I’ll miss shorts as part of my wardrobe. Plus who knows what my next job will be and whether or not I’ll get to be as casual as my last. [wow this is one scattered post]

Details:

  • Pleione shirt and Halogen shorts from Nordstrom
  • Necklace was a gift
  • Marc Fisher Iggies from Macy’s

How would you transition this look for fall?
